Former cop turned private investigator Angel (Sergio Goyri) enters his office and looks outside the window and says “buenos dias pinchi ciudad” (“good morning, fucking city”), reminding us of the dread the city contains.
Angel is not only a private investigator, but he’s also an overall generous guy who protects the neighborhood he lives in. As it turns out, he was once a very established policeman, but revealing the corruption amongst his superiors was no-good and was banished from the force. Angel is also the “guardian” of his neighborhood and protects the people there, mainly a trio of orphaned boys getting by on their own. The eldest boy used to be a drug addict, but has recovered with the assistance of Angel. Angel’s limits are tested when he must face off with a local street gang and the criminal organization they work alongside with. Angel shows no mercy to those that do bad to on to others!
El Angel Guardian Del Barrio is a movie I expected more from, so I was left underwhelmed by the time it was over. I expected more action & violence, but we barely just manage to get some. It’s like when you squeeze the toothpaste tube to get more out of it, but not much comes out or at all. I will say though that the overall story is good, so you’re not bored at all at least and Goyri’s small mullet is an added bonus to see as well.
