On the night of his bachelor party, “Marcos” (Sergio Goyri) views a porn tape that features his estranged sister Rosalia (Lina Santos). Marcos fears the worst has happened to his sister & decides to go all around Mexico to find her and he manages to track her down in Tijuana under the clutches of “Johnny Frontera” (Roberto Ballesteros), a batshit criminal who makes underground porn flicks and also distributes drugs. Johnny Frontera has gotten Rosalia addicted to heroin in order to control her and when one bad hit kills her, Johnny disposes her body to a trash field outside of the city. Marcos goes after Johnny & his goons, but is beaten, shot, and left for dead. Marcos miraculously survives and when he awakens from his coma, he is for sure going to get his revenge once & for all!

Contragolpe is a pretty solid crime-revenge flick with an intense story & just enough action to keep the blood flowing. Sergio Goyri plays a rather familiar character as usual—the timid man having to get out of his comfort zone in order to fight his way into saving someone. Goyri is excellent here for sure. Roberto Ballesteros yet again plays a very evil & scheming man with no mercy and him yelling his name out every time he talked was an added bonus. “Johnny Frontera” is indeed a great villain name. Lina Santos here plays a small role, but a very impactful one since she plays the sister who runs away for infamy & a glamorous life, but ends up chewed up & spit out by a world full of immorality & drugs—forewarned by her mother.

Contragolpe was a familiar title that played on television back in the day and every single viewing was never missed because this is indeed a very good movie with all the basic tropes of a videohome. Don’t even think about skipping it! Or else Johnny Frontera will fuck you up.
