Remember that horror-thriller Angeles De La Muerte starring Patricia Rivera & Diana Ferreti? Well 3 years after its release it got a really random videohome remake and instead of 2 lovely & crazy ladies with switchblades, it is now 2 dudes with 1 big knife and timid acting. One of them being Sergio Goyri. Weird, huh?
Two brothers "Raymundo" (Sergio Goyri) & "Hilario" (Jose Luis Becerra) prowl the streets at night looking for loose women to kill as an act of revenge for their traumatic childhood caused by their mother. The police are unsure of who could be committing such brutal atrocities and just assume it’s a lesbian killer or maybe even a gay man since men are also killed as well. A chubby reporter tries to find out for himself who could be the killer to the much annoyance of the police officers assigned to the case. One of the police officers that are after the killers is of course dating Raymundo, which naturally causes some tension along the way.
Placer y Muerte (translated as "Pleasure & Death") is one hell of a random remake and not a great one at that honestly since it all feels flat and underwhelming. We are treated to some decent bloody kill scenes, but even that’s not going to save the entire film.
You’re better off watching Angeles De La Muerte than Placer y Muerte because that’s actually a great horror-thriller and this remake is not great at all. Don’t let a couple of bloody kill scenes fool you either.
